Today during Sacrament meeting, I was reading through the general conference issue of the Ensign, and I came across a particular quote by Thomas S. Monson that really struck something in me and made me determined to want to be a better decision maker and to want to go on a mission someday.

"When faced with significant choices, how do we decide? Do we succumb to the promise of momentary pleasure? To our urges and passions? To the pressure of our peers?

Let us not find ourselves as indecisive as is Alice in Lewis Carroll’s classicAlice’s Adventures in Wonderland. You will remember that she comes to a crossroads with two paths before her, each stretching onward but in opposite directions. She is confronted by the Cheshire cat, of whom Alice asks, “Which path shall I follow?”     UAdd a Note 

The cat answers, “That depends where you want to go. If you do not know where you want to go, it doesn’t matter which path you take.” ⁷

Unlike Alice, we all know where we want to go, and it does matter which way we go, for by choosing our path, we choose our destination.

If we don't know who we are, how do we know what is the right path to choose? Decision making is important, because if we didn't make goals and plans for our lives, how on earth would we actually be able to accomplish our dreams with no desires? I want to do everything I can now to be a better person today and in the future, and it just starts with having positive thoughts and believing in the person I want to be. Once you've got that down, its easy for the right path to become clear through our righteous acts and dreams and goals of the future, the desire to find the right path to who we are. Once we choose the correct path, its easy to see the choices that will make us happy and lead us to eternal salvation.
